Delirium Screening

Delirium (or acute confusion) is characterised by altered consciousness and cognitive decline, and has a rapid onset and fluctuating course.

Delirium is a medical emergency.

People with dementia are at high risk of developing delirium in acute hospital settings.

All patients with dementia should be identified on admission as at risk of delirium and a delirium prevention plan instituted.

If there are indications present, then delirium can be confirmed by the use of a brief standardised clinical assessment; the 4AT.

If delirium is confirmed, then the potential precipitants and contributors may be identified by a clinical assessment and investigations.

Case Study

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
