D U N G E O N runs in distinct phases and has been in process over many months through Davy Mahon's own practice as an artist and the situations and locations and other artists he encounters.
It marries the literal and metaphorical underground through site specific works and curation. The locations so far have remained a secret. The project explores the idea of art as institutional critique and seeks to create a mental and physical space where this can happen. Be it reclaimed or rediscovered, these places possess none of the hierarchies and structures that inform how work can be made and are in perpetual flux, they are old, they are messy.
In short Dungeon is not a show or specific work but the act of taking back a little agency and having something for yourself, The notion of making art without needing an institution or representative to allow you the opportunity and just do it yourself. Dungeon is the act of taking a place and making it your underground lair, you don't need art institutions, they need you. Dungeon is yours.
