I share how leaving my job and my salary to study at Ulster and pursue my lifelong passion, involved a lot of change and challenges.

Five steps to Wellbeing

  • Connect

    Discover new activities, groups and make new social connections with people, places and activities you enjoy. Join UU clubs and societies.

    Good relationships are important to your wellbeing.

  • Give

    Help yourself by helping others.

    Get involved with other students in UUSU campaigns or  become a

    • peer support provider
    • ‘Mind Your Mood Ambassador’
    • class representative
    • PASS mentor or a Residential Assistant (RA)
  • Be active

    Physical activity is not only great for your physical health and fitness, but evidence also shows it can improve mental wellbeing by:

    • raising your self-esteem
    • helping you set goals or challenges and achieve them

    It causes chemical changes in your brain which can help to positively change your mood.

  • Take notice

    Paying attention to the present moment, including to your thoughts and feelings and noticing your body and the world around you can improve your mental wellbeing.

    This awareness is called "mindfulness“ and helps us enjoy life more and understand ourselves better-mindful breathing can help you reduce stress and anxiety.

  • Keep learning

    Research shows that learning new skills can also improve your mental wellbeing, boosting self-confidence and raising self-esteem, helps you to build a sense of purpose and helps you connect with others.

    Be open to new opportunities.
