You can apply for Financial Hardship Support if you satisfy the following criteria:

  • Are you a registered Home/GB Undergraduate or Postgraduate Taught (studying at least 30 credits), or Postgraduate research Ulster University Student studying in Northern Ireland.
  • Have you taken your maximum Tuition Fee and Maintenance Loans & Grants available
  • Are facing difficulties meeting your daily living expenses, due to the cost of attending University

Second Applications

Home/GB* students that fall into one of the following priority categories, and are facing genuine financial hardship, can now submit a second application:

  • Full-time Students who have a summer placement integrated into their course (for example: Nursing, AHP, Health Care/Medical students)
  • Students completing 1st sit re-sits in August due to Extenuating Circumstances
  • Students who are unable to work over the summer break due to disability, dependents, or caring responsibilities

Whilst priority will be given to those listed above, we will consider second applications from all students facing genuine financial hardship.

The small print

  • The fund closes for the academic year on Thursday 10th July at 5pm. Applications cannot be accepted after this date.
  • Students must upload all supporting evidence, before submitting their application. Failure to upload supporting evidence may prevent applications being fully processed.
  • Students who were previously rejected for submitting a second application, and wish to reapply, need to submit a new application as closed/rejected applications cannot be reopened.
  • Final year students who are due to graduate in Summer 2025 cannot apply.

*Home/GB students are those that meet the residency criteria in their relevant Student Funding jurisdiction (SFNI, SUSI, SAAS, SFE, SFW)
