Dr Yuanyuan Chen


Overview

Yuanyuan Chen is a lecturer in animation history and theory at Ulster University, and she is also the co-course director for BDes (Hons) Animation.

With a PhD in Film studies, a MA in Digital Art Design and a BA in Art Design, her current research focuses on contemporary Chinese animation, with particular interest in the influence of modernism and postmodernism on Chinese animation after the 1980s. Her broader research interests include animation theory and history, Asian animation, experimental animation, East Asian Cinema, modernism and postmodernism in cinema, non-fiction animation, and animation narrative.

She was invited as guest lecturer at Waseda University Japan in 2017 and gave a series of lectures on East Asian Cinema. Her research has appeared in scholarly journals and book collections, such as Modernism/modernity, Alphaville: Journal of Film and Screen Media, Journal of Chinese Cinemas, etc.
