Siobhan Bereen


Overview

Siobhán qualified as an art psychotherapist from Goldsmiths, University of London in 2002.

Prior to joining University of Ulster, she held the role of course coordinator and lecturer for six years at Munster Technological University, Cork on the MA Art Therapy Programme.

Previously, Siobhán was programme lead in art psychotherapy, as part of a multidisciplinary team, designing and delivering a pioneering medical facility for the treatment of substance misuse and persistent pain in the Middle East before returning to Ireland and her private practice.

She has been both in private clinical practice and worked in psychiatric services for over twenty years working with children, adolescents, adults and families in group and individual processes. Siobhán has a special interest and expertise in working cross culturally and extensive experience in areas of substance misuse and eating disorders.

She is a member of the Irish Association of Creative Arts Therapists (IACAT), the British Association of Arts Therapists (BAAT), the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC) and the Irish Group Analytic Society (IGAS). Siobhán is a qualified cross professional supervisor and holds an Advanced Diploma in Applied Group Analysis.

She has presented perspective from her work at conferences nationally and internationally, contributed chapters to ‘Making its mark: Art Therapy in the Arabian Peninsula’ published by HBKU Press, ‘The International Handbook of Art Therapy’ published by Routledge (date pending late 2024) and published a co-authored paper on the topic of the impact of environmental uncertainty on a group for female asylum seekers, survivors of torture and persecution in the International Journal of Group Analysis.
