Dr Maqsood Mahmud
Overview
Maqsood is a dedicated faculty member at the School of Computing, where he plays a pivotal role in advancing research and innovation, particularly through his active contributions to the Artificial Intelligence Research Center (AIRC).
Prior to his current role, he served as an Assistant Professor in the Business Analytics program at the University of Bahrain, where he developed and delivered cutting-edge courses in analytics and AI. His research interests are broad and interdisciplinary, focusing on AI risks, cybersecurity, differential privacy, and technological innovation. Over the course of his career, Maqsood has published more than 80 research articles in highly regarded conferences and ISI/SCI-indexed journals, significantly contributing to the academic community.
His expertise has earned him a reputation as a trusted reviewer and editor for numerous prestigious international conferences and journals, further reinforcing his position as a thought leader in his field. Maqsood has demonstrated a strong ability to secure and manage research funding, having successfully led five funded projects covering a wide range of topics within AI and cybersecurity. His capacity for bridging academia and industry is evident through his role as a certified Trainer of the Trainer (ToT) for Web of Science (WoS) by Clarivate Analytics, USA, where he shares his deep expertise in research methodologies and academic publishing with others.
In addition to his academic achievements, Maqsood’s innovative contributions have led to the granting of two US patents: one for biometric data/template security and another for advancements in natural language processing encryption. These patents highlight his ability to translate research into practical, real-world applications. Known for his ability to communicate complex topics with clarity and enthusiasm, Maqsood has delivered 22 invited talks at national and international events/conferences, sharing his insights on AI, cybersecurity, research methods and innovation with diverse audiences. His commitment to excellence in teaching and leadership in higher education was formally recognized when he was awarded a Senior Fellowship (SFHEA) from Advance Higher Education (AdvanceHE), UK.
This prestigious honour underscores his contributions to enhancing teaching practices and fostering academic excellence. Throughout his career, Maqsood has demonstrated a profound commitment to advancing research, technology, and education. As a senior member of IEEE (USA), he continues to shape the future of computing and AI, driving innovation through his leadership and scholarly endeavours.
