Dr Marc Duffy

Overview

I am a former practitioner with management experience in heavy industry, including aluminium, iron, and steel-making. During my time in industry, I worked internationally as a key account manager for Latin America's metals processing sector. This role involved frequent and extended periods working in Mexico, Venezuela, and Spain, leveraging my Spanish language skills. Additionally, I gained extensive experience working in China, Thailand, Indonesia, Brazil, Belgium, and Finland.

In 2015, I transitioned back into academia as a pracademic (Lecturer) while completing a PhD at Sheffield Hallam University in Sheffield Business School. I progressed to Senior Lecturer in Strategic Management, Enterprise, and Change in 2019, focusing on applied research, sustainable and responsible business, and leading our commitments to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME).

I am currently a Lecturer in the Business Engagement Unit at Ulster University Business School, where I focus on undergraduate and postgraduate degree apprenticeship programmes and online courses. I have also been actively involved in Ulster University’s SKILLS Courses, supporting professional development and industry engagement. My research and teaching interests include employee commitment, responsible and ethical business, and research methods. I welcome opportunities to collaborate with organisations in these areas and am open to PhD student applications.

I am the PRME Lead for Ulster University Business School and sit on the UUBS Sustainability Committee. In 2024 I joined the Chartered Association of Business Schools as a CMBE and obtained Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).

In addition to my university role, I am a member of the UN PRME UK & Ireland Steering Committee and the British Academy of Management Consulting Network, further contributing to responsible management education and business consultancy.
