Overview

Dr. Katie Nolan joined Ulster University as a Lecturer in Law in September 2023.

Katie's research interests relate to digital governance, privacy and data protection, and law and technology. She is particularly interested in the connection between the philosophical and political underpinnings of law and governance approaches.

Katie holds a Bachelor of Business and Law from University College Dublin, a BCL from the University of Oxford, and an LLM from the University of California, Berkeley. At Berkeley, Katie was supported by awards from the Fulbright Commission and the John F. Kennedy (Ireland) funds. Katie completed her PhD in law at the London School of Economics, which was entitled "The individual in EU data protection law". She is also a qualified solicitor in the Republic of Ireland. Before returning to academia, she practiced at a large commercial law firm, focusing on technology and data protection law.

Katie previously taught at University College Dublin, Maynooth University and the London School of Economics. She holds a PGCert in Higher Education from the London School of Economics and is a Fellow of Advance HE.
