Dr Khanyisela Moyo

Overview

Khanyisela Moyo has been a lecturer at the Transitional Justice Institute / School of Law since 2010. Her research and teaching interests are in postcolonial transitions, jurisprudence, gender, human rights, transitional justice and legal research methods. The thematic focus includes rule of law and judiciary reform, land reform in a transitional context, combating the legacy of impunity and minority rights in transition. She has published widely in these areas.  

Khanyisela is a Fellow of both the Higher Education Academy and the Centre for HE Research & Practice (FHEA & FCHERP). She teaches at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.  

In 2001, she obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LLB Hons) degree from the University of Zimbabwe and was thereafter registered by the Law Society of Zimbabwe as a Legal Practitioner, Conveyancer and Notary Public. She then worked for the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum as a lawyer who mostly represented victims of state orchestrated violence. Subsequently, she pursued postgraduate studies and obtained an MA on the Theory and Practice of Human Rights from the University of Oslo (2003), an LLM in Public International Law from the University of Nottingham (2004) and a doctorate in law from Ulster University (2009). She has also acted as a transitional justice consultant to Zimbabwean civic bodies.

Khanyisela is a peer reviewer for a number of leading journals. She is also a member of the Editorial Board of the State Practice and International Law Journal with an additional specialised responsibility of Book Review Editor.
