Overview

Professor Heather Farley joined the University in 1992, having previously worked in the food industry, primarily in research and development and production management roles.  She has recently been appointed as Associate Dean (Education) for the Ulster University Business School, having previously been Head of the Department of Management and Leadership (since 2009).  She is a Professor in Management Education (since 2011) and was awarded a Distinguished Teaching Fellowship in 2007, in recognition of her achievements.

Heather is a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and has taught a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, in addition to the supervision of PhD students.  Her research interests lie primarily in the area of food product marketing and consumer behaviour, although she has undertaken progressively more learning and teaching related research activity, having previously acted as Faculty Learning and Teaching Coordinator for eight years.  Recent collaborative research has included developing an engagement model for management education, and on effectively incorporating learning technologies to enhance assessment and feedback practice.  Heather is currently working with three Departmental colleagues, on a four year longitudinal ‘Leadership Journeys’ study for the Leadership Foundation, investigating the impact of the Foundation’s Top Management Programme (TMP) on senior academic leaders (and their institutions) who have undertaken the programme.

Heather has maintained her business links through a range of activities, just completing a period as Council Member of the NI Chamber of Commerce and Industry and through links with the Confederation of Business and Industry (CBI), the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), the Institute of Directors (IoD) and the CIPD and ICSA professional bodies.
