Dr Eva Brown


Overview

Dr Eva Brown is a Lecturer in Academic Study Skills (Mathematics and Statistics) in Ulster University’s Student and Graduate Success Directorate. She earned her Doctorate in Mathematics Education from Queen’s University Belfast and has over 20 years of teaching experience in further and higher education.

Her research interests include designing, conducting and completing large-scale quantitative studies; evaluating mathematics assessments in post-compulsory education; exploring math anxiety among current and prospective primary-school teachers and analysing the factors of Mathematical (in-)competency among adult professionals.

Dr Brown specialises in course and curriculum design, volunteer-led professional and academic mentoring and championing project-based mathematics learning. As a member of the ATM, she is passionate about enhancing students’ mathematics learning experiences and increasing their academic attainment, progression and employability.

Eva gained expertise in developing interactive teaching, learning and assessment materials in the post-compulsory mathematics classroom, co-led several national F&HE curriculum development projects and provided consultancy to CCEA in GCSE Statistics curriculum design and to DoE in adult numeracy education, curriculum and assessment design.

Dr Brown also occupies the privileged position of having consulted, developed and delivered mathematics teaching at all levels of the UK National Curriculum.
