On 28th September 2022, Ulster University successfully hosted the closing conference for the SPIRE2 research project at its new Belfast campus.
Around 60 participants listened as researchers discussed how industry engagement through SPIRE2 is facilitating open and informed dialogue on the new innovative business models that are emerging as the demand for energy storage systems increases.
The event showcased collaborations with key industry stakeholders which have resulted in active case studies that are intensifying technological innovation in the region and creating pathways to advanced energy storage solutions.
In parallel with industry engagement SPIRE2 supported a virtual doctoral college through which a total of 16 PhD and six post doctorate researchers have been trained, the equivalent of 100 years’ worth of research, building a skilled talent pipeline for future research and innovation in energy strategy, systems and infrastructure. Presentations by the PhD Researchers demonstrated the growing talent in this key industry sector.
The project has been commended by both Northern Ireland‘s Economy Minister Gordon Lyons and Ireland’s Tánaiste Leo Varadkar.
