Background
Performance Sport Scholarships for Individuals provide financial support to help exceptional student athletes achieve their sporting potential. These Scholarships are jointly funded by UU Sport and the Development and Alumni Relations Office.
Each Scholarship will provide successful applicants with financial support of up to £4,500 for one academic year. Students may re-apply for funding in subsequent years. If a student is in receipt of another sport-related Scholarship from Ulster University they are not eligible to receive a Performance Sport Scholarship.
Criteria
To be eligible to apply students must:
- Participate in a sport recognised by Student Sport Ireland (SSI) and/or British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) detailed within the provided list.
- Be a member of an Ulster University Sports Union Club for their chosen sport.
- Have within the last 18 months been selected to play/perform at a minimum of age group international level, aligned to the performance pathway of their sport.
- Have within the last 12 months represented Ulster University in their chosen sport.
- Be in good academic standing and demonstrate commitment to Ulster University.

Application Form Deadline
Applications for 2024 closed at 12pm on 11th October 2024.
Application Form and Assessment
It is your responsibility to ensure that all sections of the form are completed. If there is any information missing when the deadline passes, your application will not be considered.
Eligibility will be assessed on the information provided in this form. If further clarification is required contact may be made with the applicant or the sport concerned. Please ensure that all relevant information that could affect your application is included and that your answers are as comprehensive as possible.
All applications will be subject to an initial assessment conducted by UU Sport. Applications considered eligible will be reviewed by the Disbursement Committee.
Your application will remain confidential between you, UU Sport, and members of the Disbursement Committee.
The award of the Scholarship is dependent upon funds being available and will be at the discretion of the UU Sport and awarding Disbursement Committee.
Applications are submitted directly online. It is strongly advised that applicants familiarise themselves with the questions and formulate their answers prior to filling out their application forms online as application forms cannot be saved and submitted at a later stage.
Please note: adherence to word count will be taken into consideration as part of the assessment process.
Competition for the scholarship will be high, so unfortunately meeting the eligibility criteria does not mean you are guaranteed an award.

Only participants from the sports recognised by Student Sport Ireland (SSI) and/or British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) are eligible for a Performance Sport Scholarship (Individual). Other Performance Sport Scholarships are in place for our high level UU Performance Teams including Basketball, Football (Women), Gaelic Football, Golf and Hockey (Women). Participants from these sports should not make an application here but seek further information on Scholarship opportunities through their campus Sports Development Office.

Presentation of Scholarships
The successful applicants will be notified by 23 October. The Performance Sport Scholarships will be presented at an awards ceremony on Friday 8 November 2024 on the Belfast campus. Scholarship recipients will be required to attend the presentation.
The successful applicants may, as a condition of the scholarship, be asked to advocate for UU Sport and Development and Alumni Relations Office upon request and will be required to provide a testimonial on the impact of the Scholarship.
