Irish and Celtic Studies Research Institute of the Modern Languages and Linguistics Research Unit hosted a one-day international Irish Folklore and Ethnology Conference on the Belfast Campus on 17 November 2018, Saturday.
The conference focused on the theme of ‘History and Folklore’ and attendance to the conference was outstanding with fifty people registered and in full attendance.
The conference featured talks by Irish (both North and South) and international scholars from Sweden, Armenia and further afield on the diverse topics relating to Irish oral and material traditional culture. We closed by the annual Bo Almqvist lecture delivered by Dr Guy Beiner of Ben Gurion University (Beersheba, Israel) on “Penetrating Social Forgetting: The Challenges of Collecting Ulster Folk History Traditions in the Mid-Twentieth-Century”.
