Three police forces in England are planning to test motorists’ eyesight in order to improve road safety. Not being able to read a number plate from 20m (65ft) away when stopped by police officers could lead to an immediate driving license revocation.
Scientists from the Ulster University Optometry and Vision science research group are in favour of this call and recommend that people get their sight tested by an optometrist every two years, regardless of whether they are concerned about their eyesight, in order to maximise their eye health and make sure they are road safe.
