The Researcher Network is excited to announce an upcoming workshop on AI Applications for Research Contexts (AARC).

The workshop aims to:

  • explore the innovative and transformative role of Generative AI in research contexts
  • present an opportunity for researchers and AI practitioners to contribute to the discourse on AI in research, influence guidelines, and shape the future of AI in research.

The workshop will be held at Derry~Londonderry campus as part of the University’s Research Week, and will serve as a platform for sharing insights, research, and practical use cases of AI-driven future-leaning approaches to advance research at Ulster University.

Relevant AI applications may involve ethical and responsible use of Generative AI to improve any aspect of the research pipeline (see Ulster’s position on the use of AI tools).

Submission Guidelines

Presentation format: 15-minute talk + 5 minutes for questions

  • Abstract should include a title, content and references.
  • The content is limited to 300 words, not including title and references.
  • Submit your abstract as a pdf or docx attachment to our submissions page.
  • Reviewing will be double blind: author details should not be included in the abstract.

Submissions will be assessed based on the following criteria:

  • Innovative implementation of an AI application in a research context
  • Evidence of AI application’s impact on the research (e.g. efficiency, quality, reach)

We will also be awarding an Innovation Award for the best abstract submission, based on these assessment criteria. The award will be determined based on demonstrating actual implementations of impactful use of AI for research purposes, in either of the following categories:

  • Incorporation of AI technology to enhance research effectiveness
  • Supporting researcher awareness and engagement with AI
