The NMC Standards for Medicines Management are being reviewed and removed at the end of January 2019.
We will confirm the actual date of withdrawal as soon as this is announced.
The NMC are working closely with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) as they review and update their professional guidance on The Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines. This guidance provides information and guidance for all healthcare professionals on medicines management and administration. The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) and the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) have also been closely involved in this work.
During this period all candidates are advised to use and refer to the Royal Marsden Manual of Clinical Nursing procedure guidelines 12.3 Medication oral drug administration when preparing and rehearsing for the NMC Test of Competence. These procedural guidelines provide the rationale and type of evidence that underpins this procedure. They provide both the context and clinical experience, drawing on other regulatory and professional sources of guidance, to inform safe practice in the administration of medicines.
