Universities UK, the collective voice of the UK’s principal universities, today visited Ulster University for a showcase of its research and teaching excellence from the new, state-of-the-art Belfast campus.
The UUK delegation, which included President Professor Dame Sally Mapstone FRSE and Chief Executive Vivienne Stern MBE were given a tour of the new campus in a visit that demonstrated the institution’s leading research projects, teaching excellence, and defining presence in Northern Ireland.
Highlighting a selection of standout research and teaching facilities at the state-of-the-art campus, the visit featured the School of Sport’s Golf Simulation and the Anechoic Chamber, a specialist teaching space in the Belfast School of Architecture and the Built Environment, designed for highly controlled acoustic testing.
Accompanied by Ulster University Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Bartholomew, the UUK group were introduced to the University’s strategic plan – People Place and Partnership: Delivering Sustainable Futures for All, as well as its distinct regional mission and ambitions for its campuses in Derry~Londonderry and Coleraine.
Also joined by Professor Malcolm Press CBE, Vice-Chancellor of Manchester Metropolitan University and Steph Harris, UUK Director of Strategy, Insight and Member Engagement, the group visited The Academy, Ulster University’s teaching restaurant, and heard about the University’s community engagement, business partnerships, and key research areas including at the Personalised Medicine Centre in Derry~Londonderry.
The visit provided an overview of Ulster University’s key City and Growth Deal projects, including Studio Ulster, Northern Ireland’s largest production studio, the Ulster University School of Medicine and Centre for Food and Drug Discovery, and AI projects including the Centre for Digital Healthcare Technology and Cognitive Analytics.
