Two of Ireland’s most revered jazz musicians, Gay McIntyre and Joe Quigley, will team up for performances at the University of Ulster’s Coleraine and Magee campuses.Gay McIntyre is well known as a consummate saxophonist/clarinettist and as an influential teacher. He has worked with many of the top players in the world including Acker Bilk and Kenny Ball.
Gay will be joined by guitarist Joe Quigley, one of Ireland’s most in demand session players and musical directors. Joe’s impressive career has included performances and recordings with Van Morrison and regular appearances at the City of Derry Jazz Festival both as a soloist and as part of the Bleu Note Big Band.
These concerts, featuring a skilful arrangements of favourite jazz classics, will showcase the technical mastery of both players and their superb musicality.
The duo will perform a lunchtime concert on Tuesday 23 February in the Great Hall, Magee campus at 1.15pm before travelling to Coleraine for a performance in the Octagon at 8.00pm that evening.Admission is £3 for the lunchtime concert in Magee or £5, concession £4, students and those receiving benefits £3 for the evening performance in Coleraine. Tickets for each concert can be purchased on the door on the day or in advance in the Cultural Development Office at Magee or Coleraine.
