University of Ulster academic Deirdre McNamee has been appointed as a Non-Executive Member of the Northern Ireland Practice and Education Council for Nursing and Midwifery (NIPEC).
Mrs McNamee, who is from Strabane, is Associate Head of the School of Nursing based at the Magee campus.NIPEC supports the provision of nursing and midwifery within Northern Ireland. It is committed to the promotion of continuous professional development and to a culture of lifelong learning, to enable nurses and midwives to maximise their contribution to patients and client health.
Deirdre McNamee has been the Associate Head of Nursing at the University of Ulster since 2006 and was previously a Lecturer in Nursing at Ulster since 2001. She is a qualified nurse and nurse teacher and holds a specialist practice qualification in rheumatology nursing. Mrs McNamee was Rheumatology Nurse Practitioner at the former Altnagelvin and Sperrin Lakeland Hospitals Health and Social Services Trusts and she holds an Honorary contract with the Western Health and Social Care Trust.
Accepting the post, she said: “I am committed to supporting the learning and development of nurses, midwives and all health care professionals with the aim of enhancing the experience of each person receiving care and promoting the wellbeing of the population. I have a particular interest in enhancing the quality of care so that it is consistently safe, effective, equitable and meaningful. I look forward to applying the cumulative experience achieved through my clinical and academic career in this exciting new role.”
