Stephen is a Chartered Accountant with a wide range of professional experience across accounting practice, the banking industry, economic development and executive training. Since joining academia he has sought to continually develop both professionally and pedagogically. Stephen is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Authority and a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland.
Stephen is the Course Director for the Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting, in 2022 this programme was a finalist in the Irish Accounting Awards, Excellence in Education and Training. His teaching interests are primarily around financial accounting. In addition to delivering in Ulster Stephen has led programme delivery for Chartered Accountants Ireland and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. He has also written examination papers for Certified Public Accountants Ireland and authored a text-book, A Practical Guide to UK and Irish GAAP.
Stephen has extensive experience of working with small businesses and delivering non-specialist finance courses. He utilises this expertise to drive civic contributions in the University, delivering finance on both the GradEmployNI programme, a partnership between Ulster University and the Leonard Cheshire Charity and on the Help to Grow: Management Programme, a HM Treasury programme designed to boost small businesses performance, resilience and long-term growth.
