My favorite part of living in Dubai for three months was experiencing the culture and meeting so many wonderful people from different countries. I truly have made friends for life.
I made lots of memorable moments while in Dubai with the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management. Firstly, I got to meet people form all over the world and created friendships that will last a lifetime. All students at the Emirates Academy were friendly and chatty.
I was also lucky to have went with four other Ulster University students also on Emirates Academy. We had each other to socialise with and introduce new friends to one another.
Studying at the academy and working at the Burj Al Arab (known as the 7 start hotel) was a once in a lifetime experience. It was amazing to be able to experience a different teaching style and was a great way to make friends for life.
Lastly, I got to participate in a number of activities such as going to the desert to ride camels, sand boarding and dinner in the desert.
There are a lot of internationals living in Dubai with lots of diversity.
The United Arab Emirates culture itself mainly revolves around the Islamic culture and religion. There is a lot of wealth, with high rise buildings and fancies cars.
Everywhere is so clean and built up. Which is very different to Ireland with its narrow roads and pot holes.
The biggest challenge I encountered with was the heat and humidity.
Thankfully Dubai was well set up for the weather conditions, there was air con in every building.
Although during the summer months, I found it tough doing outdoor activities during the day as it was just too hot. Which was very different to my normal lifestyle back in Ireland.
Thankfully that is the only challenge I can think off during my time in Dubai.
My advice would be to make to most of living in Dubai! Visit the desert for a full day, the Dubai mall and waterfall. If you are going to study or work abroad, try the local cuisine your city has to offer. If you are into sports, join a sports club as it's a great way to meet other international people and locals.
