Subject area studied at Ulster

Campus at Ulster

Nebraska Wesleyan University,  United States of America Business Management, Accounting, Hospitality Management Belfast

How does your home institution campus compare to Ulster University?

My home university is much smaller and in a smaller town. My home university is not as new or technologically advanced.

What were your highlights from your mobility experience

My friends and I took a surfing class in Portrush! We had the best time being together and enjoying the weather.
Another favourite was attending Ukulele night at the Deer's Head every Wednesday night. We got to know the people and the community in Belfast.
Also, I loved the trip to Giants Causeway and Portrush during the Orientation Week!

What cultural similarities/differences did you notice?

At home I don't take any public transportation this was something I came to love in Northern Ireland. The people were all very similar to the people in Nebraska. The lifestyle was similar, but the dorm life was very different. I shared a room with 3 girls at home and a bathroom with 20 of them! In Northern Ireland I had my own room and bathroom!

What challenges did you encounter? And how did you overcome them?

I had to overcome homesickness. Also it was a challenge for me to learn about Public Transportation. I did not do well with Google Maps, but I learned much from it.

Did you find it easy to meet new people and make friends?

Yes I did, I am very extroverted and I love making new friends. We started off the time with a group chat and we all would send plans and activities. We used this the whole time we were in Belfast. This allowed us to meet people and to stay together all semester.

Did you travel to other places?

I went to Scotland, Luxembourg, Germany, France, Croatia, Italy, Switzerland, Ireland and Hungary.

Any words of wisdom for students thinking about studying abroad?

DO IT! I met lifelong best friends and gained experiences in SO many different countries! This was the best experience ever and I look forward to sharing this with everyone I meet!
