Ulster University now accepts the Password English Language Test for applicants who have outstanding English language condition for undergraduate or postgraduate study.
The test is aligned to the CEFR (A2 to C1) and delivers extremely accurate results.
Who can take the test?
The Test is only available to international applicants of programmes for the Belfast, Coleraine and Derry/Londonderry Campuses.
The Test is not available to NI or GB students who require an English language test to meet entry criteria.
The password test can be taken once in a three-month period. If you need to take the test again, you must wait three months before you can try again.
Book your Test
Your exam will be invigilated by Examity. You will receive a welcome email from Examity. Please follow the steps to create your account and schedule your exam appointment.
Preparing for your Test
- You need to download and/or update Google Chrome
- Ensure that you have a headset and microphone that work.
- You need to make sure your camera, microphone and internet speed are exam ready
- Check that you have at least 1 mbps bandwidth
- Before you take your test, you will be given access to practice tests. It is advisable to take time to complete the practice tests before you attempt the actual test.
Taking your test
The test is run and invigilated online. It takes up to three hours and five minutes to complete and is made up of four test modules as outlined below.
Reading
- This module consists of five sections. In each section there is one reading task to be completed.
- Duration: 1 hour and 15 minutes
Writing
- This module assesses your ability to write an essay.
- Duration: 30 minutes
Listening
- This module consists of five sections. In each section there are one, or more, listening tasks to be completed.
- Duration: 1 hour
Speaking
- This module has five sections with one, or more, speaking tasks (questions) in each. Simply answer by speaking into microphone.
- Duration: 20 minutes
After the Test
Your test results will usually be available within 7 working days. The Ulster University Global Recruitment Team will contact you via email to inform you about your scores. If your scores meet the entry requirements, International Admissions will guide you through to next stage of your application journey
