Dr Susann Power

"I have been involved in sustainability business practice, research and teaching for over 15 years, and have seen first-hand the positive, transformative power that sustainability-led businesses have for climate action, equality and prosperity. Ulster University Business School is a leader in sustainability action - both in research and as an educator. I have felt inspired by all the great work that is happening in the faculty, which has motivated me to build the UUBS Sustainability Team in order to promote, celebrate, support and streamline the faculty’s sustainability work. I feel energised by the enthusiasm of the Team and the warm reception we have received from Faculty Leadership. I am looking forward to working together to create through UUBS an agenda for sustainable futures for all."
Dr Bronagh Magee
Lecturer - Department of Management, Leadership and Marketing
‘’I am delighted to be involved in the UUBS Sustainability Team as I see this as a great opportunity to contribute to the sustainability agenda in the faculty. This is also aligned with my research in sustainability and teaching in Sustainable Business. My PhD research focused on Sustainability Marketing in the museum sector in the UK, where I investigated how sustainability can be embedded into an organisation’s servicescape. I am particularly interested in how organisations, both public and private, can make a positive impact on nature and society. My research interests lie in marketing and entrepreneurship from a sustainability and regenerative business perspective.
Dr Stuart Henderson
Senior Lecturer - Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics
“I am keen to be involved in the new UUBS Sustainability Team as I recognise it can provide a critical leadership role in the promotion of sustainable thinking within our faculty. This can enhance the sustainability credentials of our teaching and research, and thus contribute to our reputation as a leading civic university. On a personal level, I am from a farming background, and involved in research relating to the shift towards more sustainable practices in Northern Irish agriculture. As such, I have a keen interest in the real-world application of sustainable values and already work alongside my colleagues on local sustainability issues.”
Dr Shirley Davey
Lecturer - Business Engagement Unit
Sustainable innovation is a necessity for all organisations and their employees today, to not only survive, but thrive in an uncertain post-pandemic world shaped by monumental economic and social disruptions. Being part of international EC and GCRF funded research projects I have seen the impact of developing sustainable solutions on the health and wellbeing of citizens globally. I am excited to be part of the new UUBS Sustainability Team to collaborate with academic and business stakeholders to build new knowledge sharing initiatives that will ensure that the University is at the forefront of skills development for a more sustainable and inclusive economy.”
Dr Caroline Morrison
Lecturer - Department of Global Business and Enterprise
"Being part of the Sustainability Team within UUBS gives me a chance to delve deeper into the topic, to share ideas with like-minded people and to heighten understanding of the importance of sustainability if we are to address the most pressing needs of our time. Growing up in a rural area, from an early age the natural world has always fascinated, inspired, and given me the space to just ‘be’. While on some level, I was always aware of the need to value and protect the environment from damage caused by human activity, this expanded into other interests that I now recognise as part of the broader sustainability agenda. My research examined environmental energy solutions which increased my understanding of sustainability, for example towards sustainable communities and the need for innovation as a driver for change. More recently teaching a diverse range of students gives insight into the realities of climate change, social inequalities, or food insecurity."

I am looking forward to joining UUBS sustainability committee, it is a fantastic opportunity to make a commitment to fostering sustainability into all my academic practices. My background in marketing and retail has heightened my awareness of the strategies organisations employ to educate consumers about environmentally responsible practices. I recognise that these efforts encompass not only operational adjustments but also a transformation of marketing and communication strategies to align with environmentally and socially responsible values. It is my hope that through our collective efforts, we can make a meaningful difference in advancing sustainability initiatives and nurturing a culture of environmental consciousness.”

“Having contributed to the sustainability agenda for the past number of years within our department, working on team projects such as the Green Impact Award, Peas Please Pledge, and the SDG Dashboard, I realised the impact we could have in helping support our local food and drink industry and hospitality sector in reducing their environmental impact. As the marketing and communications lead, I have the responsibility to raise awareness of the work and research undertaken by UUBS and actively engage with the local business community in working together on this challenge”.
Professor Kristel Miller

“I joined the sustainability committee to help play a small role in raising awareness of how everyone can take steps to reduce the negative environmental impact from their daily activities. These steps can be as simple as individuals starting to embedding new habits and routines, to companies re-thinking their business models and embedding more sustainable processes and operations throughout their value chain.”
