My name is Izedonmwen Iyiosa Godson, often called Izzy. Hailing from Benin City in Edo State, Nigeria, I embarked on my academic journey at Ambrose Alli University, where I earned a Bachelors degree in Economics with Second Class Upper Division honours. Before arriving in Northern Ireland, I was actively involved in entrepreneurship, particularly in transportation and real estate. Additionally, I gained experience as a Financial Advisor and Marketer at HEIRLIFE Assurance.
Why I chose Ulster University
Driven by a desire to expand my knowledge and skills, I chose Ulster University to pursue a Masters degree in Marketing. The University's renowned reputation, coupled with its commitment to research excellence, made it the ideal choice for me. The opportunity to collaborate with like-minded individuals and learn from industry experts in a beautiful setting was an added bonus.
Throughout my programme, I found all the modules to be both stimulating and challenging. The Strategic and Applied Digital Marketing module was particularly enjoyable as it allowed me to work in a team to develop a real-world business solution. Additionally, Dr. Bronagh Magee's Sustainability Marketing course broadened my perspective on business development, inspiring me to pursue a more conscious career path.
Support services that made a difference
Ulster University provided invaluable support services. The Centre for English Language Teaching (CELT) was instrumental in enhancing my academic writing skills and facilitating my integration into the university environment. The International Student Advisory Service (ISAS) also played a crucial role in helping me acclimate to life in Northern Ireland.
The full Ulster experience
Beyond the classroom, I actively engaged in extracurricular activities. I served as a class representative for Year one Marketing students, representing my peers in student-staff consultations and advocating for their needs.
Mastering key business skills
My Masters degree from Ulster University has significantly impacted my professional and personal development. I have gained a solid understanding of business project management, design thinking, data analytics, marketing strategy, and effective communication. I am confident in my ability to apply these skills to real-world business challenges.
Future aspirations
After graduation, my goal is to secure an internship or graduate position in the social sector, where I can leverage my acquired skills and contribute to meaningful social change. In the future, I aspire to pursue a PhD. and conduct research that addresses the needs of social businesses.
