Studying at Ulster University (UU) was a transformative experience that exceeded all my expectations. When I joined the MSc in International Business programme, I brought with me a background in information technology, web development, as well as entrepreneurship where I have helped businesses launch online and co-founded sustainable agribusiness ventures. I was eager to broaden my global business expertise, and UU turned out to be the perfect place for that journey.

Why I chose Ulster University

It wasn’t just the university’s strong reputation for supporting students and fostering success that drew me in. The Business School’s focus on sustainability and innovation, coupled with its diverse and collaborative community, resonated deeply with my values. I wanted a place that wouldn’t just teach me theories but also challenge me to think critically about how businesses can shape the world—and Ulster delivered! The Derry~Londonderry campus, with its peaceful countryside setting, was an added bonus that made my experience even more special.

My experience

The MSc in International Business programme was packed with opportunities. Modules like International Finance and International Marketing gave me practical insights into market entry strategies and financial analysis that I’ve since integrated into my work. A standout experience was the Entrepreneurship module, where I developed SunSpot—a concept for secure solar charging stations in under-resourced areas. This project sharpened my ability to design impactful ventures, laying the groundwork for refining my ideas. The teaching staff were exceptional, offering support and connecting us with opportunities outside the classroom. One standout initiative was the Catalyst Co-Founder Programme, where I networked with other entrepreneurs and innovators across the UK and Ireland. These experiences enriched my learning and broadened my professional horizons.

Support and mentorship

For my dissertation, I worked under the guidance of Dr. Caroline Morrison, whose mentorship was invaluable. My research focused on the global market implications of sustainable palm oil production—a topic deeply connected to my background in agriculture. This wasn’t just an academic project; it felt like contributing to a meaningful global discussion.

The support I received throughout the programme was phenomenal. Balancing coursework, personal life, and career aspirations isn’t easy, but the faculty and the Student Wellbeing team were always there with encouragement and practical resources. It felt like I was part of a community that genuinely wanted me to succeed.

Professional and personal development

Ulster University’s impact on me has been profound. Professionally, the course equipped me with a sharper understanding of global business strategies and sustainability practices. Personally, it gave me the confidence to tackle ambitious goals. The friendships I made and the networks I built have enriched my life in ways I never imagined.

Future aspirations

As I step forward, I’m excited to bring what I’ve learned to the professional world. My immediate plan is to secure a role in the UK where I can merge my expertise in technology and business strategy to create innovative solutions. Eventually, I hope to launch a business that leverages sustainability and technology to make a positive impact on communities worldwide.

Ulster University didn’t just prepare me for a career—it gave me a vision for the future. I’m proud to be part of this inspiring institution and grateful for the journey that has shaped me into the professional I am today.
