Whether you are a student using the NIPAD or someone supporting students (i.e. Practice Supervisor, Practice Assessor, Academic Assessor/Link Lecturer/Practice Tutor), it is essential that you understand how to use the NIPAD to support learning and assessment in practice.

Below is an introductory video on the NIPAD and five separate videos that address different core sections of the NIPAD in more detail.

You should watch them in order of the introduction first and then from 1-5.

An Introduction

This short video provides a short introduction to the Northern Ireland Practice Assessment Document (NIPAD).

Watch this video first before watching the five more detailed videos on different sections of the NIPAD.

1 - Core Components

This video is the first of five videos that works through the different sections of the NIPAD.

In this video, you will be introduced to the core components of the NIPAD that form it’s opening components.

2 - Records of Discussion and Feedback

This video is the second of five videos that works through the different sections of the NIPAD.

In this video, the records of discussion are discussed, including initial discussion (including orientation), progress review (including professional values in practice assessment) and final discussion (including learning and development plans).

Other records, such as records of attendance and weekly learning logs, are also covered.

3 - Additional Records

This video is the third of five videos that works through the different sections of the NIPAD. In this video, records such as Practice Supervisor/Assessor/Academic notes, development plans, and the record of underperformance are discussed.

4 - Evidence Development and Authentication

This video is the fourth of five videos that works through the different sections of the NIPAD. Evidence underpins identification of learning and development and the assessment process using the NIPAD.

This video covers the variety of evidence types within the NIPAD (e.g. service-user/carer feedback, authenticated reflective accounts, care documentation, leading and coordinating care episodes, worksheets and achievement in nursing procedures) and the importance of their authenticity and need for significant consideration before they are signed off as achieved and to standard.

5 - Assessment

This is the final of the five videos that works through the different sections of the NIPAD.

This video covers the formative and summative assessment processes and documentation.
