Shaping the future of health care education.
The School of Nursing and Paramedic Science, prides itself on being a long-established School that is interconnected with society globally, nationally and regionally.
Our research and scholarly outputs are recognised as world leading.
With healthcare systems evolving and changing dynamically globally, our educational and research endeavours need to be responsive and proactive to the wider healthcare needs of society and the workforce.
Person-centredness is at the core of our culture and school activity
Our work is focused on the health of people, families and communities and our research, students and graduates shape these and inform wider healthcare policy.
Our School is one of the oldest in Europe, celebrating 50 years in 2025, Illustrating our history in developing nurses and the international workforce for half a century with success.
“to deliver academic excellence in research and teaching that will encourage innovation, leadership and high quality care that will impact on health and wellbeing globally, through an evidence-informed and person-centred approach”
Our team is focused on preparing nurses, paramedics, and other healthcare professionals and support staff to address the healthcare needs of society by enhancing their skills, knowledge and person-centred attributes. Our School is unique in its provision, its structure and culture. We have evolved as a School to include paramedicine alongside nursing, strengthening our team’s diversity, breath of influence and commitment to supporting the healthcare workforce.
Our work is uniquely underpinned by the theory of person-centred practice that has flourished beyond the borders of nursing and midwifery to incorporate healthcare professionals from all disciplines, across our research centres and including all our educational curricula.
With our on-campus cognate disciplines of Allied Health Professions and Medicine, we are ideally positioned to realise a more integrated approach to healthcare education. We continue to work in an integrated way with practice, policy makers and other stakeholders regionally, nationally and internationally, and have a collective desire to constantly evolve and adapt.
The external research profile of the School extends globally and the School’s curricula have an excellent reputation for innovation, quality and the delivery of high-quality graduates.
