The Transitional Justice Institute invites you to attend an online talk with Ben Saul, UN Special Rapporteur on protecting and promoting human rights whilst countering terrorism, speaking on Israel's campaign of violence in Palestine and neighbouring states, in response to the violent attack on Israel by Hamas on October 7th 2023 and other armed groups on Israel after that. Around 1,200 people were killed by Hamas and 251 others were taken hostage.
Israel’s response has killed more than 46,000 Palestinians, more than half of whom are women and children, and has resulted in the displacement of the majority of Gaza's population, famine, and the destruction of virtually all of the territory’s infrastructure. Hospitals and ambulances have been destroyed and humanitarian workers and journalists have been killed, amidst allegations of violations of international humanitarian law, international criminal law (including war crimes and genocide), and human rights. A ceasefire took effect on 19 January 2025, but the legacy of harm, and the structural causes of the violence, remain to be addressed.
Simultaneous Arabic/English interpretation will be provided.
