This accredited activity helps students learn signs and symbols from stages 1-4 and the additional stage of the Makaton Core Vocabulary. This workshop is delivered through four modules and is both lecture and practical based.

Outline of Activity

Participants will learn signs and symbols from stages 1-4 and the additional stage of the Makaton Core Vocabulary. Students will receive manuals containing the lecture content to use as a reference and for note taking. In addition, students will also receive pocket books of the signs and symbols learnt.

Learning Outcomes

The participants will have an understanding of how Makaton signs and symbols are used to aid both understanding and expression. They will be able to confidently recognise and use Makaton signs and symbols from stages 1- 4 and the additional stage of the Makaton Core Vocabulary at a single word and sentence level. They will have an understanding of the research used to develop Makaton; and know how to implement Makaton in practice.

Assessment Details

Participants must attend all four modules, with each module being 3 hours duration.

A certificate of attendance is awarded.

Students must

  • Attend all 4 modules is required.
  • To maintain learning it is advised that the students continue self-directed practice of the Makaton signs and symbols learnt at the Foundation Workshop
