Device Hardware Baseline Specification: Microsoft Windows Desktop Devices (on-premise) - September 2024
- Device Registration: Windows desktops (on-premise) must be registered in and managed by the University’s Active Directory and SCCM platforms.
- Chassis: The standard desktop chassis normally procured is known as a “Small Form Factor” (typically 30cmW x 30cmD x 10cmH). Stakeholders may opt for an alternate chassis should a technical need exist.
- Processor: For new desktops, a 14th Generation Intel Core i5-14500 processor or higher is required.
- Memory: 16Gb (minimum)
- Local storage: 500Gb Solid State M.2 storage device (minimum)
- TPM Chip: TPM Version 2.x or higher compliance is required either as standard or by way of a BIOS firmware update to support device encryption requirements.
- BIOS Services: UEFI, Secure Boot and Wake-On-Lan (WOL) capable
- Interface Support: To include USB Type-A 3.0, Gigabit Wired Ethernet (default network service), HDMI video, DisplayPort video. Wireless and Bluetooth and USB Type-C services are optional – dependent on stakeholder need.
- Legacy Desktop Processors: Desktops with an intel processor specification i5-8500 or above are currently supported and can be AD registered and built via SCCM with a Digital Services standards-based software profile. However, please note that devices with Intel 8th Generation processors are now considered "end -of- life" and qualify for a lifecycle refresh via the owning stakeholders.
- Unsupported Desktop Processors: Desktop Processors below an Intel i5-8500 specification are considered to be end-of-life and a hardware refresh should be arranged by the owning stakeholders.
The device should be offboarded /retired in line with University governance requirements. - OS Version: New desktop devices must be procured with a Window 11 Operating System version that qualifies for upgrade to Windows 11 Enterprise under the University’s Microsoft Campus agreement.
