The Role of OPALS

The Older Persons Assessment and Liaison Service (OPALS) includes 2 nurses, 1 Occupational therapist, 1 Physiotherapist and 1 Social worker.

OPALS undertake early case management of older people with complex needs and promote a patient centred approach of assessment from point of admission. The OPAL team screen everyone admitted to hospital that is a general medical admission over the age of 75. Verbal referrals from wards are also accepted.

The aim of the OPAL team is to improve discharges from hospital, reduce length of stay, reduce delayed discharges and reduce re-admissions. The OPAL team also aim to appropriately transfer patients to rehabilitation beds in Waterside hospital.

Case Study

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
