About Connect To Success

Connect To Success (C2S) aims to tackle gender inequality, empower women, and strengthen the regional economy by equipping women-owned businesses (WOBs) with the tools for success. C2S’s Northern Ireland Corporate Mentoring Program will launch on 2nd October 2024.

This initiative enables WOBs to focus on strategic growth rather than daily operations, guided by experts from top multinational corporations to develop effective scale-up strategies.  Participants are paired with teams of subject matter experts from global corporations to gain insights that accelerate business growth. Over a year, mentors and mentees meet monthly for two-hour sessions, either in person or virtually, with ongoing informal communication.  The program’s goal is to identify each WOB’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, and to create actionable strategies to address challenges and leverage opportunities.

Previous C2S - Portugal

In under five years, C2S Portugal registered over 1,100 WOBs and supported 128 corporate mentoring teams from leading global companies.  These corporations helped WOBs in Portugal develop sustainable growth strategies.  Mentors came from firms including:

  • CISCO
  • Deloitte

  • Hill & Knowlton
  • Hyatt
  • IBM
  • L’Oréal

Roisin Garland and Leanne Jennings, Co-founders, The Grandscale

“We are thrilled to have been selected for the Connect to Success Corporate Mentoring Programme. Louise Doyle, Co-founder, Needi Ltd

“I’m over the moon to be part of the C2S Corporate Mentoring Program. This opportunity couldn’t have come at a better time for us at needi as we’re on an exciting growth journey to transform corporate gifting into something genuinely thoughtful and sustainable. The chance to learn directly from industry experts is incredible, and I can’t wait to absorb their insights and guidance. This mentorship will be a game-changer, helping us refine our growth strategies, improve operations, and connect with more global businesses.”

Sharon Rutherford and Jessica Melville, Co-founders, Insula Wellbeing

“We are very excited to have been selected for the CS2 Corporate Mentoring Program. As the founders of Insula Wellbeing, a private mental health business with a focus on staff supports, we have grown rapidly in just over two years. We have had to learn about running a business from scratch and this opportunity comes at a critical time for us. Having access to experienced corporate leaders is truly invaluable in both the strategic guidance we need to scale the impact of our unique staff wellbeing clinics, but also to help us with aspects of our business we are finding particularly challenging. The chance to network and connect with other like-minded entrepreneurs will be equally important and exciting. We’re eager to learn, grow, and continue building a company that redefines the landscape of mental health support and we need help to do that! Let the next stage of our journey begin.”

Lynsey Bleakley, Founder and Director, Bumble & Goose

“We specialise in luxury branded biscuits and brownies and a key part of our role is to help companies showcase their own brand to clients. After 4 years of sustained organic growth, this programme will provide an excellent opportunity for us to put the accelerator on that growth and allow us to claim a larger market share in the luxury branded and corporate biscuit market, with a particular emphasis on growth within Europe. Women are still underrepresented in business in the UK, particularly in Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland had the lowest percentage of newly incorporated female-led companies in the UK, at 17%, and just 26% of NI entrepreneurs are female. I see the C2S Corporate Mentoring Programme as an opportunity to work with market leaders to strengthen both my position and that of my fellow cohort in the business market.”

    Roisin Maguire, CEO, Seedling Education

“I am honoured to be selected for C2S’s Corporate Mentoring Program. It’s such a privilege for an SME Director to get input and assistance from a much larger, global company. This program will provide me opportunity to step away from the continual multi-tasking that running a business requires and allow me allocated time to focus on fine tuning our strategic direction. That I can do this with a mentor from a successful and prestigious business fills me with confidence that my company will see real and positive outcomes from my participation on the program. I am a strong believer in lifelong learning, and I step into this mentee mentor relationship fully receptive to gaining new perspectives and stress testing my business assumptions with a trusted mentor.”

    Representative for Cliste Hospitality

“At Cliste Hospitality we believe in supporting local organisations and building positive partnerships. C2S’s Corporate Mentoring Program is a great way for us to partner with Northern Ireland companies and it compliments our sponsorship of Co-operation Ireland. Northern Ireland has one of the lowest proportions of female-led companies in the UK and a lower level of women-to-men entrepreneurs. In supporting CS2’s Corporate Mentoring Program we can impact this by supporting female leaders to grow and create sustainable companies. Supporting leaders cements our values of providing leadership to our team.”

“Connect to Success is an exciting new program in Northern Ireland and we are delighted to have the opportunity to be able to support local woman entrepreneurs. The Mentoring Program combines two important themes for Kainos – helping women to be successful and helping local businesses to scale based on our experience. This is a unique opportunity to help support these businesses on the next stage of their journey while challenging our people, in a mentoring capacity, to help overcome the real demands facing a scaling business.”

Suzanne Wylie, Chief Executive, Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NI Chamber)

“Northern Ireland has a wealth of entrepreneurial talent, including many innovative female founders with world-class ideas, but we need more of them. Encouraging more women-led businesses and providing the right support to help them realise their ambitions is key to the region’s future economic growth. The launch of the Connect to Success programme is a welcome addition to Northern Ireland’s entrepreneurial support system, which will give entrepreneurs unparalleled access to the strategic thinking and mentorship of businesspeople who have already charted the course to international business success. Connect to Success Launch Event

At a special event in Belfast, Joe Kennedy III, US Special Envoy to Northern Ireland for Economic Affairs, announced that applications are now open for Connect to Success (C2S) a programme powered and implemented by Ulster University. This initiative aims to empower women entrepreneurs, bolster the regional economy, and advance gender equality in Northern Ireland.

Joe Kennedy III, US Special Envoy to Northern Ireland for Economic Affairs, said:

“Empowering women in business isn't just a local effort; it's a global game-changer. Whether it’s in Belfast or in Boston, we need more women-led enterprises and more female investors. By championing women entrepreneurs, Connect To Success, Ulster University, and their partner companies are igniting
economic growth, driving social progress, and paving the way for a more inclusive and prosperous Northern Ireland.”

Attending the event, making keynote speeches and supporting the launch of the initiative were the First and Deputy First Ministers.

First Minister, Michelle O’Neill said:

“The Connect to Success scheme is designed to empower women entrepreneurs and equip them with the tools they need to succeed in their business ventures. Female entrepreneurs make a really valuable contribution to our economy and it is encouraging to see how this initiative is supporting them. As an
Executive, we recognise the importance of creating an environment where women are encouraged, supported, and valued equally in their careers.”

Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly said:

“The launch of the Connect to Success programme in Northern Ireland will provide women in business here with the tools for success.

Kim Sawyer, Executive Director of Connect to Success, said:

“This initiative goes beyond business growth; it's about empowering women, fostering cross-community collaboration, and breaking down barriers that have traditionally limited women’s access to capital, markets, and networking. By connecting women entrepreneurs with mentors from some of the world's most

This experience not only sharpens their leadership abilities but also sparks creative thinking and opens
doors to new partnerships and ventures.”
