Architects of Change Phase III, Biodiversity Trip – May 17 and 20, 2024

The biodiversity trip is an essential element that links back to several workshops for the children, particularly in Workshop 5, where the focus is on learning about biodiversity and demonstrating appreciation for local species. However, Phase III would now involve the assistance of an external environmental facilitator who would not only determine the most appropriate settings for all schools but also inspire the children to actively observe and appreciate the natural world. This year, the facilitators organised two excursions to provide logistical support for both the school area and the number of students participating in Phase III.

The first excursion took place at Glenmona House in Cushendun, specifically for the three primary schools located on the North Coast. The primary schools in the Northwest region participated in the second excursion at Downhill Forest. Transportation was available for all schools.

The day commenced with a cordial introduction to the external environmental facilitator, who motivated the children to notice and value the natural world and informed the children that they would be participating in a 'Bird Murder Mystery' scavenger hunt on the premises, with clues strategically positioned across the area but arranged in a single continuous path. Which caused lots of excitement. The students also engaged in a parachute action that facilitated their understanding of the impact of plastic on the ocean and its repercussions, in line with the knowledge they gained during their fourth workshop

The day was extraordinary and thrilling for all the children, in amazing locations where many had never been.
