Choosing where to live...

Choosing where you live can be just as important as deciding on the course to study at Ulster University.

You can choose to live in halls or in private accommodation. Before you make your final decision, it is important that you research the pros and cons of each.

  • Length of contract
  • Do you need to find money for a deposit?
  • What bills are included in your rent and are these capped? Rates, utility, etc
  • What additional costs should I consider?  E.g. insurance, Wi-Fi, etc.

University Accommodation

If you have made your Firm or Insurance choice and want to stay in UU Accommodation, we strongly recommend that you apply as soon as possible.

First-year applicants who have made Ulster their firm choice and have applied prior to 7 July 2024 are eligible to apply for for a guaranteed place in one of our halls. You may hold your place with a £100 refundable booking fee.

Seeking private accommodation?

There are a number of websites you can visit to search for student accommodation, such as Student Accommodation in Northern Ireland - houses homes flats housing (nistudentpad.co.uk) or SpareRoom and you can also enquire at local letting agents.

Before you enter into a contract with a private provider, we strongly recommend that you research your rights and obligations.

Are you thinking about commuting to university? 

Each of our campuses are served by good public transportation links including train services.   If you are unsure about the best or cheapest way to get from your house to a specific campus, try Rome2toRio

If you are travelling by Translink you may qualify for a YLinkcard where you can get 1/3rd off of TransLink bus and rail travel.

You can also get specific route information for each campus via TransLink website

Your UUSU

Ulster University Students’ Union (UUSU) is a not for profit, charitable membership organisation which was formed in 1984 as an independent body to Ulster University.

UUSU currently represents approximately 25,000 student members and provides a vast range of services for members including academic representation, welfare advice, volunteering opportunities and enhancement of the student experience through events, activities, clubs, societies and change programmes.

UU Sport Services

More active, more often

Ulster University Sports Services offers state of the art facilities and programmes for athletes of all ages and abilities. Our user friendly facilities means there is something for everyone.

Sports Services membership and facilities are open to students, staff and members of the public.

Ulster University Sports Village

Ulster University’s Jordanstown Sports Village is located just seven miles north of Belfast. With a strong profile in computing, built environment, business, engineering, health sciences and communication, the campus is also home to the Sports Institute of Northern Ireland (SINI).

The science and coaching of sport have always been recognised as key specialisms in Jordanstown and, in the last few years, the campus has welcomed an impressive 6,000m2 high performance sports facility.

Our largest campus is situated in the artistic and cultural centre of the city, the Cathedral Quarter. Incorporating the best of Derry~Londonderry and Coleraine, Belfast is a creative, innovative, and vibrant environment which has been designed as a campus community within a building.

The campus accommodates 15,000 students and staff who benefit from purpose-built active learning and research spaces, alongside social destinations including cafés and restaurants, shops, a bar and two state of the art fitness facilities!

Explore Coleraine

Coastal Living

Our jewel on the north coast, our Coleraine campus combines the natural environment with world-leading teaching and research facilities both in and out of doors. This campus is the epitome of active learning with clinics open to the public, a fully operational BBC newsroom, and the ultimate outdoor classroom, the Research Vessel Laconia.

Together with the nearby seaside towns of Portrush and Portstewart and the Giant’s Causeway World Heritage Site, this area is a major international tourist destination.
