Why Payroll Giving?
Payroll Giving is a scheme allowing you to donate directly from your pay to any registered charity.
Most importantly this donation is TAX FREE meaning it costs you less to give.
How it works
- A donation is deducted on a monthly basis from your pay before tax
- Because the donation is taken from your gross pay before you are taxed, a pledge of £20 will only cost a 20% tax payer £16 and a 40% tax payer £12
- Charities Trust, a charity and HMRC approved and regulated Payroll Giving agency, charges a nominal 25p per donor per month
- If at any time you wish to alter the amount or stop your donations, please contact your Payroll Department
Making your gift go further
Donating through Payroll Giving means the University cause will receive more money than it actually costs you from your salary. They will actually receive the Pledge Amount, but as it is deducted before you receive your salary it is pre-tax and costs you less.
Therefore you need to pledge the GREATER amount to ensure the charity benefits. Below shows examples of how much you may wish to donate and what your gift will cost you:
Your Pledge | As 20% tax payer - you pay | As 40% tax payer - you pay | Ulster University Fund receives |
---|---|---|---|
£5 | £4 | £3 | £5 |
£10 | £8 | £6 | £10 |
£20 | £16 | £12 | £20 |
£50 | £40 | £30 | £50 |
£70 | £56 | £42 | £70 |
£100 | £80 | £60 | £100 |
