Agherton Village is located in the picturesque town of Portstewart just a few miles from campus, which can easily be reached by a bus which stops outside the residences. The accommodation is registered under the UK Code

The development is adjacent to the local Tesco's so everything you need is right on your doorstep.

Portstewart is a fifteen minute walk away and has a selection of shops, cafes restaurants and clubs for you to enjoy.

Resident  Assistants (RA)

Your RAs are listed below, they are here to help you settle in. They provide peer support and guidance on a range of issues and can signpost you to the appropriate services available. Your RA will help organise social activities and give you important information about events and campus facilities. The RAs are on duty 6pm - 10pm and on call  after 1o pm   for emergencies

Night Assistant (NA)

Your  NA  David  Dickey, he operates from the Residential Services Office  he is available 10.00pm to 5.00am Sunday evening to Friday morning.

Night support assistants are members of staff who are there for your safety and to help when you require it.

They provide advice and assistance for a range of issues and are mainly responsible for health and safety.

As you will be living in close proximity to each other so mutual respect is required.

Car Parking

There is adequate on-site parking. Free parking is provided for residents only on a first come first serve basis. The University accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to any vehicle left in the car park.

Cleaning

You are responsible for cleaning your bedroom, kitchen, living room, shower and WC, and cleaning equipment is available to us within your unit, although you should purchase cleaning supplies, bin bags and toilet paper.

Kitchens should be kept clean and tidy with all equipment washed and put away after use.

Inspections will be carried out each term and you will be notified when these are taking place.

Electricity

The cost of  electricity is included  in the rental charges  however there is a  utility cap of  £5.00 per week per person. The electricity usage is monitored and if you exceed the agreed usage  you could incur charges. You   you can  add electricity by downloading the  NIE app from the App store and use the 9 digit premises number from your key ring  to register and follow the instructions.  If there is a problem with the electricity please contact the Accommodation  Office or the Resident Assistant.

On occasions the trip switch in your apartment  could be trigged  by a faulty appliance  on these occassions please contact your Resident Assistant.

Fire Safety

Agherton Village has a fire alarm panel in each apartment/house for your protection.  Please remember to keep fire doors closed

On hearing an alarm, you should follow the “Fire/Emergency Procedure” which is set out on the blue and white notice in your apartment/house.

If you encounter a fire, no matter how small, you should raise the alarm and evacuate immediately.

If you have accidently set of the alarm please follow the instructions on the fire panel and contact your RA.

Fire  Prevention

Do not use aerosols such as hairspray or deodorant near smoke detectors.

Ventilate the room when showering to allow the steam to exit and use the extractor fan.

Never leave cooking unattended.

First Aid

All the Resident Assistants have basic First Aid Training  - The Resident Assistants are available from 6pm.

Heating

There is oil-fired central heating throughout for heating and hot water, which is included in the price for your accommodation.

Monday to Friday 8.00am-10.00am & 6.00pm-11.00pm

Weekends 10.00am-12.00noon & 6.00pm-11.00pm

Laundry

There is a coin operated laundry available onsite.  The washing machine costs £2.00 for a wash and the Tumble dryer costs £1.00

Location

Agherton Village is approximately 3 miles (5km) from campus, there are regular buses to and from the University.

The 40d bus goes to Coleraine via Coleraine campus

A taxi will cost approximately £8.00 for a single journey.

Repairs

If any repairs are required in your accommodation please email accommodationc@ulster.ac.uk so we can fix it.

Please note that appointments cannot be made for maintenance work and access to your may be required in order to carry out maintenance or repairs in your absence.

There may be occasions when routine maintenance needs to be carried out, and 48 hours notice will be given.

Rubbish/Recycling

The University promotes environmental sustainability and residents are encouraged to recycle and reuse to prevent unnecessary items going into landfill.

Please make sure that all your rubbish is placed in the bins supplied.

Please keep the bin areas clean and tidy at all times. Each kitchen  has a bin for recycling and a bin for general waste.

The blue bins are for recycling - newspaper, cardboard, clean tin cans and clean glass can all be put in the blue bin.

The Black bin is for general waste.

The bins are emptied fortnightly.

The University supports the British Heart Foundation "Pack for Good " Campaign and you can donate clean clothes, bed linen, books, shoes to the BHF via the clothing banks in the Cranagh  Student Village on campus.

Security

Please make sure to close and lock your doors and remember to take your  keys with you. Being locked out does not constitute an emergency.
Security is everyone's responsibility and it is advisable  to keep your front door locked at all times.

There is a Tesco's supermarket next door to Agherton Village and all the big supermarkets are located in  Coleraine in the retail parks.

Smoking

Smoking is not permitted within any University building.
