The Garfield Weston Trust (GWT) is a registered charity established in January 1969 that aims to promote and enhance education and research, to promote the University and its involvement with the surrounding community, to widen participation for prospective students and to support current students at the University.

Each year, the Garfield Weston Trust makes a series of grants and awards available, on a competitive basis, to support projects across all Departments, Schools and Faculties

Over the years the GWT has funded several innovative projects, for example:

  • 25@25 Leadership programme: Leading Northern Ireland’s Future
  • Generative AI (Artificial Intelligence) Workshops
  • Introducing Children to STEM
  • Ulster Gene Editing Academy
  • Strategies to Tackle Mental Illness and Suicidality among Students.
